About Us – Chimpanzee Conservation Project

Mr Joseph Serugo

Mr Joseph Serugo

Hello Friends of Nature,

I am Joseph Serugo, 51- Director of KAYIRABWA CHIMPANZEE CONSERVANCY ASSOCIATION (KCCA) – a Non-Governmental Organisation in Kibaale District, Uganda.

KCCA works with communities to conserve endangered species including chimpanzees and sitatunga outside protected areas. We are also involved in promotion of sustainable agriculture, development of ecotourism, appropriate technology and advocacy.

Conservation of endangered species on privately and communally owned lands faces enormous challenges including rapid human population increase, expansion of unsustainable agriculture, poverty and lack of compatible income generating alternatives.

We seek dynamic experienced Volunteers in development of an ecotourism package combining chimps and other attractions such as caves, rocks and culture in the area and other income generating activities.

We also welcome researchers and students to monitor chimps and collect other biodiversity data in this unique chimpanzee conservation project.

Previously I worked with Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) for 18 year rising from the rank of Assistant Warden in 1990 to Chief Warden in 2001; headed various Conservation Areas until I was appointed as Natural Resources Coordinator in 2006 up to retirement in 2007.
